A dove in the shape of a cross – enameled or made of olive wood – was the typical cross of the ecumenical community of Taizé. The Taizé brother and artist Frère Marc, who created this symbol in the early 1970s, has now died at the age of 93. The Swiss national was born in 1931 in the canton of Zurich and joined the then young community in 1954. He was the first German-speaking brother and designed stained-glass windows for churches in Taizé, South Korea, Japan, and Mongolia, among others.
